I’m often asked about my name.
There are two Japanese characters pronounced 'Ran'. The first one means orchid,

the second means chaos,

The rest is for you to guess.
It is not that I am planning that anything in this blog will need censorship (if that's the material you hoped for, you may not find it here) Instead, this blog the place where I hope to put my uncensored thoughts. In other words, lots of unrelated stuff, boring and interesting alike (ok, I admit, mostly boring). So why do I do it? Why do we do anything at all? I just feel like it, and this is good enough reason for me. Well, at least for the time being.

All I know is ... I get told off for the way I pronounce it

and who is offing you?

Fellow-blogger ... ajnspencer (Andy, my significant other)
antlady69 pro http://www.antmusic-forever.blog.co.uk 25/05/08 @ 16:47
... and "Fuchs" means fox. Unless, of course, you replace the h with a k ...
TomTheCat [Member] 25/05/08 @ 16:55
i guess (after your command) that you got 'Fuchs' as a nickname when you, as a child, were visiting temporarily a school in germany, because of the colour of your hair...
ranfuchs [Member] 25/05/08 @ 16:59
Or maybe my ancestors sold furs?
TomTheCat [Member] 25/05/08 @ 17:04
what?
from a japanese fox or an european one?
(ranfuchs is falling off the 'bridge of death' ...)
Melinda_blog [Member] 25/05/08 @ 19:33
What can I add?
Apparently, it's all been said already.
Except, of course, that 'Reynard' (could be abbreviated to something not too dissimilar to 'Ran') is a traditional name for foxes in England...
and I believe, in French???
(But then, we were ruled by the Francophones for many centuries - not that any of my compatriots wants to admit it...)

How about 卵? ...means egg
ranfuchs [Member] 26/05/08 @ 09:31
I hoped no one would come up with this one
RunDontWalk pro http://menomamauk.blog.co.uk 26/05/08 @ 00:57
Thanks for the explanation. Hope you are well.
ranfuchs [Member] 26/05/08 @ 09:34
very well indeed. But so busy travelling.
husbandorcat [Member] 04/06/08 @ 06:58
Chaos fits.
One day, you can read my novel.
One day, I'll finish writing it.
ranfuchs [Member] 04/06/08 @ 07:57
shall I read it before or after you have written it?
Melinda_blog [Member] 04/06/08 @ 08:27
Up to you.
and your time machine.
Melinda_blog [Member] 05/06/08 @ 06:29
Don't want to give too much away.
But chaos is relevant to a rather significant male character.
do you bring chaos in your wake?
ranfuchs [Member] 05/06/08 @ 07:54
not more than women do
Melinda_blog [Member] 05/06/08 @ 08:36
All women?
That's rather a sweeping generalisation.
ranfuchs [Member] 05/06/08 @ 09:15
unlike: chaos is relevant to a rather significant male character
Melinda_blog [Member] 05/06/08 @ 09:19
Which is entirely specific.
In the book, the females embody the principle of order, while this specific male character embodies the principle of chaos.
ranfuchs [Member] 05/06/08 @ 09:23
I don't believe in embodiment
Melinda_blog [Member] 05/06/08 @ 09:26
I can understand that.
All these characters are gods, and you don't believe in them either.
But it is a fantasy - an allegorical one.
Melinda_blog [Member] 06/06/08 @ 08:02
Who needs order, anyway?
Chaos is much more exciting.
husbandorcat [Member] 07/06/08 @ 20:14
But were the people who gave you that name Japanese?
ranfuchs [Member] 07/06/08 @ 20:15
I was too young to notice
husbandorcat [Member] 07/06/08 @ 20:17
So, is it short for anything?
Melinda_blog [Member] 07/06/08 @ 20:21
'Random' would be good.
Goes with the chaos thing
ranfuchs [Member] 07/06/08 @ 20:24
Chaos is never random.
CassandraofTroy [Member] 07/06/08 @ 20:29
Never say never
ranfuchs [Member] 07/06/08 @ 20:32
Chaos is rarely random
CassandraofTroy [Member] 07/06/08 @ 20:35
True.
It is nearly always predictable.
ranfuchs [Member] 07/06/08 @ 20:24
maybe to rancomehomedinnerisready?
Melinda_blog [Member] 07/06/08 @ 20:27
And is it?
ranfuchs [Member] 07/06/08 @ 20:31
that what my mother used to call when I was young
Melinda_blog [Member] 07/06/08 @ 20:52
I meant 'Is dinner ready?'
ranfuchs [Member] 07/06/08 @ 21:02
it never is
Melinda_blog [Member] 07/06/08 @ 21:04
That accounts for your athletic figure.
Melinda_blog [Member] 07/06/08 @ 20:38
'Randy' is another possibility.
could be awkward, in combination with your surname (which I guess most English people probably mispronounce).
ranfuchs [Member] 07/06/08 @ 20:52
Ain't I lucky that the English speaking world is so small
Melinda_blog [Member] 07/06/08 @ 21:00
Wonder why you chose to live in it?
