I have always wondered what featured blogs were, and how they were chosen.
It's obvious that quality is not criteria, nor necessarily popularity. So for a while I thought it must be some mystical formula that combines the two. However, today when Chris_Brown's, with 5 entries altogether and last activity 564 days ago, was featured I realised that this must be another one of these mystical phenomena beyond anyone’s control.
Does anyone know how it's done?

Well, they probably got some freebee selection algorithm, and might not know how it works. After all, the idea is to increase traffic or to encourage quality, which indirectly increases traffic. If the selection does not achieve it, than it's a waste of time.
I used to look at featured blog as I always hoped that I'd find something unique or interesting in them. But they are no better than any other random one I pick.
i always thought it's a completly random choice.... so you dont have to sleep with anybody [too easy

It's a random selection based on a secret algorhythm that apparently selects from all bloggers but defies all known laws of probability by coming up with the same 20 or so bloggers every time. I assume it is useful for first time users. It isn't much use to anyone else, as far as I can tell. But I'll follow your progress with interest if your offer to sleep with the person responsible is followed up!

Just "read" Chris Brown's blog - it makes a complete farce out of whatever criteria/formula BCUK use!
Any newbies or potential blogger who see Chris Brown's blog is likely to run a mile!
well I reckon it is to do with how active the blogger is....as of posting comments or blog posting or getting commented on or maybe a mixture.....whether that means frantically sleeping with people I dont know. I have been a featured blog and //nobody// asked me to sleep with them at all.........either before or after, during or since or even ever..... (i'm lying actually....mmmm...forgot about that....; ) As for the dead blogger blog...well maybe he is still sleeping with the same person...for the last year and thus achieved a record.?
I thought it had something to do with activity,until today that the featured someone who was not active for nearly 2 years. Now I don't know. But I think I will leave it like this and go back to ponder over more intereting problems

Pro try leaving really long Comments on other people's blogs. It has worked for me.
Actually, I am not that interested to appear there often.
I think I have sufficient traffic already. But as I used to go to the featured blogs once a day to check for interesting writing, I got very disappointed, and then I got curious

Pro The whole thing is absurd - they say it's worked out by an algorithmn - which could include anything eg the number of times one uses the word 'of' - but also that it's random. How can it be both?

Nobody knows for sure dear Ran. We already tried figured out but they don't tell how they choose it, i can tell you that FEATURED BLOGGS ARE the TOP-BLOGS, the Bloggers they consider best but they don't reveal the cryteria of choosing it, anyway when we choose these blogland this already exists so we must deal with it
Anyway, for me i know who are the top-bloggers and the ones i like/love and read...well indeed my friends on my list almsot them are oooh yes!

I have been curious and I have to say I think Jackfrost's blog is top quality and he deserves to be featured. The intro/overview is very important to attract the reader initially maybe. And his has the 'human' 'personal' touch as will appeal to a particular audience. He is also non-offensive.
Other intros/overviews appeal to different ages/sexes/personalities...??
Oh I don't know...but I bet you mine will never get featured due to my naughty bits...Even if I did have mind-blowing sex with the whole team at the top!!! (obviously not at the same time...hhmmm, but there again...)
Anxious? Not a bit. I just picked a question I had, and got heaps of responses. You never know what will invoke reader's interest do you?

Apparently I have not checked out BCUK too thoroughly as I haven't seen what you are talking about. I guess it must be some randomly selected blog then??
Only a while ago I found out "The buzz" (the list with the most popular blogs?) and I think those lists are usually misleading so I don't bother to look at them.
