All about women, toilets and relationships

If we are already talking about toilets (Loo with a View ), can anyone explain why women living on their own, when starting new relationships often complain about how inconsiderate men are, that they never remember to put the toilet seat back?

Out of curiosity, does anyone know of any man who ever fell into the toilet because the toilet seat was up? So why can’t women just put it down themselves? Is it something in the living-alone woman psyche that prevents her from looking where the toilet seat is before sitting?

... and then they complain how difficult it is to find a serious man to have a long term relationship.

By the way, the way you put in the toilet paper roll (paper from the top or paper from the bottom) is another one of these things that is not really worth not having relationship for.

    also my friend Helen says she would rather men left the seat up than not put it up at all...I do not know what she means :¬)

  Well, all of a sudden, after long time away, I decided to visit the toilet. So there I went, and the seat was up.
  
  Surprisingly enough I found myself not falling in. But that triggered stream of memories of all those women who kept complaining about near falls. Using my technical mind, I was trying to work out how it was possible.
  
  The rest is history
  
  When you sit with people, wouldn't you love to know what's going on through their minds?

    Whenever I'm on the train and get fed up either listening to my i-pod or reading, I look around and wonder what people are thinking. Must admit this particular train of thought - toilet seats - never quite crossed my mind. Tomorrow's train jouney is now going to be a lot more interesting.
    
    By the way, not all women complain about toilet seats! Just been trying to think about if there was anything I used to nag about. It was mainly about cleaning up spills on the kitchen work surfaces.

      actually, thinking back, noone I've ever lived with complained. However, heard quite a lot of about women complaining about their men. (maybe its one of these things that is never told to your face?)

Years and years ago, according to my Granny, there were double toilet seats in the Ty Bach (loo) down the bottom of her garden. People could sit side by side and have a nice little chat. Some people even did their courting there.

Toilet seats have never worried me. I'm a big girl, I can put them down for myself. I think some women need to get a life....

It is actually possible HLOL...I don't put the light on in the middle of the night so as not to set off the air vent or to wake myself up too much...there have been occasions when hubby's forgotten to put the seat down and my knees have nearly met my chin as I've sat down...it also damned cold when warm flesh hits cold porcelain... And how many women have you known who complain about this in your life? Sounded like dozens...can't remember anybody else I've discussed up or down loo seats with apart from my hubby...

I have told my 4 year old son to put the seat down. It is cold to sit on...but what's more you should always replace the lid completely whether a boy or girl. Studies have shown it helps prevent the huge amount of germs bouncing into the bathroom and all over things like your toothbrushes when you flush....so there. And yes, actually I am being serious...think about it when you next clean your teeth.

  sorry, still can't feel serious about it, nor about which side of the tube you tooth paste tube you push. (not relevant in modern days as they are all made of plastic, but I still remember the good old days that this was another reason for an argument

I live on my own and don't expect men to lower seat and do not understand why they should. But rather sweetly, I've noticed that both my Cariad and my best other male friend both do so in my house!

Now paper over top or under is all about logic - I'm right, he's wrong and I'm not saying which is which

Is this actually true, or just a rumour that men like to spread about women?
I've certainly never understood why anyone would have a problem with it, and I've never met any woman who has (not that I've asked every woman I know).

i complain about toilet; i have been for 15 years after my husband and now, same thing with my sun; the problem with me is that i got up in the night and step eyes closed to the toilets, the sit heavily down on to it before i really men forget to put it as it should be. It is true that you nearly fall into it. Now i am careful when sitting on it.

But i love them all and nobody is perfect so, life must go on.

  As long as you can accept that occasional fall into the toilet is an unavoidable part of being in a good relationship, I think that you are in a very good position

May I be gross here?

I'm going to anyway.....

You see men are not known for their hot-shot aim when peeing. I lived in a house with 3 brothers. Men bless them often fall short with the direction of flow.

Now it then follows that if their aim is not too good, it's possible they could pee all over the upturned seat. I imagine some women moan because they would have to touch a pee-spattered seat before sitting down.

Well this is an alternative theory.........
Apologies if this is a little too graphic, first thing in the morning.

Use it any way way you choose it,
then men and women should leave both seat and lid down.

Paper is more pleasing to the eye if the sheets hang outerside, but more practical for pulling (therefore more economical) if on the innerside.

And...boys should use a litter-tray until they are 16 !

Someone I respected up until this comment was made, once said "the sign of a proper gentleman is whether hey leave the toilet seat down so women can use it"
Apart from the glaringly obvious solution to this oh so enigmatic transgender quandary, I put forward 2 ideas:

1) It's another little control gesture or test, to see if a man will comply with pointless ideas in order to get a woman's approval. The correct answer is to chuckle and remind them they can do it themselves, by the way, possibly including a half-hour teasing about their prams being parked out front, and their food being nicely cut up for them.

2) It is a mild kind of feminist point scoring device, a little case of one-upmanship in the new anti-man culture among a lot of people. Our historial notion of sexism turned on it's head, once again, so yeah the same answer above probably appplies too

Honestly it's the same for mean you know, going to the toilet in the night, I mean. We have to switch on the light no matter what or we can't reliably aim, and manoeuvre hinged plastic just the same as any other sex.

  two interesting points you raised here:
  
  1. Being a gentleman by definition means comply with pointless idea to satisfy arbitrary rules dictated by a group of unknown people to serve some of their own personal needs
  
  2. Talking about feminism, and the reverse of roles. I call all men to require women to leave the toilet seat up, so that we, men, will not need to lift them.

    Being a gentleman doesn't get you very far these days, the concept needs serious updating. Gentlemen used to indulge women courtesies and favourable treatment in some areas because they were riding roughshod over what we call human rights.
    Certainly my dear after you, please allow me to walk on the outside, oh, vote? you want to vote? You want to work? Hah! what remarkable ideas...
    Hardly conforming to the idea of gentlemanly behaviour, treating them as second-class idiots.
    
    As far as I'm concerned equal MEANS equal, physical and psychological differences aside a lot more could be done to make this so. No more gestures of compliance when women aren't prepared to do the same thing, the toilet seat thing is a pretty good case of this not happening in fact.
