The more you read and learn,
the more you realise
that everything written,
of how to live
you have known for ever.
All the books in the world,
will not change this,
or make it better.
So put them all down,
and live.

I often forget it myself ![]()
Learning is a lifelong process; as humans we have the ability to never stop learning...
yet, too often we learn the wrong things that just keep us away from what is true for us
Absolutely.
Part of that is down to a muddled curriculum in my opinion.
Interesting the difference in comments above. I always thought that it was women who are more in to self-help books. They are more interested in improving themselves, whereas men are more interested in how things work. So I am with Usksider on this, and I guess you can apply his comment to things or to ourselves.
I think that there is lots we can learn about things. There is lots to read, to experiment. How things work, how the universe work. This we don't know. This we need to learn.
However, what makes us happy, saisfied, fulfilled this is something that is built into us. If we only listen, if we only looked. Trying to look at the answers outsides only adds layers that hide what we know and try to reveal.
At least this is my observation, and I may as well be totally wrong ![]()
I partly agree with you. I have learnt so much from books and reading but i have learnt as much by experiencing life and seeing, smelling, touching, hearing, sensing, living life.
so you seem to believe in balance between the two? Is it your normal attitude to everything in life?
hard subject...when i learn of something new from books, media etc...i then have a yerning to experience it...but i also have the urge to go out and discover things...so ...i suppose i am a bit of a fence sitter..
I suspect with most people the trouble isn't about not having access to advice and experience, from whatever its source. It that we forget or ignore the advice when faced with an opportunity to put it into practice.
so what is yor advice? How can we make sure we don't forget?
Whatever suits the individual. There are supposed to be four different learning styles, though most of us respond to a mixture of inputs. Some people learn best by reading books and thinking on things, some only absorb information by active experimenting (putting their fingers into electric sockets and feeling the results), others need to be learn as a result of discussing an idea, and others need a visible representation to understand and recall an idea, (put a knot in their hankies or have a tattoo.)
and what is that you do when you want to change?
I have a look in the wardrobe to see what's clean.
lol
But sometimes you need a push in the right direction, and then those books can be good, I think. Not that I have ever came across any book that had the answers I was looking for, but I like to think that some people can be helped by them. ![]()
I used to think so often. I have read many, and I talked to people who have read even more. It alwasy seem to have a short term affect. But I know noone anyone who has changed in any non superficial way, in the long run.
But again, this may be just that I know the wrong people.
You might be right! I can't say that I know of anyone that has actually been able to change their life from a book, but as I said, maybe at least they can get a push in the right direction. But the hard work is up to ourselves!
I have a terrible aversion to self-help books of any kind, but did love reading books that improved my knowledge of a particular subject and still do, but less so now...now I read for sheer pleasure after two decades and more of reading in the pursuit of knowledge....don't think I could live without books...
Nice little poem though...big hugs...
glad you liked it
.
Nice and succinct. And true ![]()
what is your experience?
My experience is that for the most part, people walk around in a daze. People are very smart, but somehow numb and dumb. Then a catalyst comes along....and they become interested in what they are and what they know, and begin searching, only to find resonance with what they find, either because of the "ask and you shall receive" principle, or because deep within each human being naturally resides all the knowledge we would ever need, which requires a catalyst to unlock - OR, perhaps it is finding the capacity to tap into the universal well of knowledge which is always available to those seekers who can allow themselves the required receptivity to that well which will provide any and all direction a human needs to find a more fulfilling way of life.

Is it what you understand? or do you truly manage to live like this?
It is what I understand, and if I did not understand this I couldn't hope to live like this, which I certainly try to do. Hard with so much noise in our culture though.
